About David Seff

David Seff possesses extensive expertise in education, finance, insurance, and technology. He is renowned for his computer programming expertise, particularly in critical disaster recovery and full-system life-cycle programming. Having a good understanding of numbers and recognizing patterns has allowed him to become a successful, versatile professional.

Education

The National Science Foundation selected David Seff as one of 100 students across the country to take graduate-level math courses at the doctoral level. Since David Seff was interested in math, he continued his studies at The Yeshiva University.

He holds a B.A. in Mathematics and Physics from Yeshiva University in New York City with honors.
David Seff earned an M.S. in Mathematics and a M.A. in History from the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University while simultaneously being enrolled in Yeshiva University.

Professional Overview

David Seff worked as a technical specialist for Guardian Life Insurance as well as developing systems. David and many other programmers developed and tested the company's Y2K testing procedures. During the turn of the century, David taught other programmers new programming techniques that saved the company tens of thousands of dollars. Aside from coding new products, David kept old stock for New Business Illustrations, and coded and maintained insurance forms with six-digit precision using special coding techniques.

David Seff has gained extensive classroom experience over the past four decades. As well as number theory, he teaches calculus, geometry, algebra, probability, and statistics. He co-authored an undergraduate textbook on constructive combinatorics with Dr. Earl Glenn Whitehead.

Throughout his career, David Seff has taught at City College, Baruch College, and other New York metropolitan institutions. Additionally, he worked at Chase Manhattan Bank as a Programmer Analyst and Project Leader. In order to recover data from crashed main hard drives, David created special utilities due to overwritten backup tapes. Through his expertise, a billion-dollar risk could have been avoided. He also upgraded and maintained a variety of other systems, including Securities Tracking and Reporting Systems.

Teaching Experience

In the late 1980s, David Seff taught several math and physics courses at the New School until the evening science department was discontinued. He taught this course for several years.

David Seff also taught night classes for Guardian during his time at Touro College. David Seff returned to teaching after working for a life insurance company for more than a decade. Among the courses, David Seff taught were calculus and graduate math for secondary school teachers. "Fun with Math" was a course David Seff taught for several years. It received excellent reviews and was fully enrolled.

Additionally, David Seff taught "Light, Lasers, and Optics" and "Color, Beauty, and Light" in physics. As a math teacher, he taught "Elementary Number Theory." In 1998, he received a faculty development grant, which was awarded to just one faculty member per division. In addition to "Non-Euclidean Geometry", he taught "Elementary Number Theory".
